The video represents the struggle of two oxen in a race. Animals are numbered and supported by fans. The fight is so public and documented by spectators and photographers. The work shows the animals as objects of fun and it does show the movement of their bodies accompanied by piano music and their supporters. The artist has chosen in this video do not use the original sound of the video, to season it with a romantic tone to the rhythm of the movements of the animals. In fact, the music was composed by a pianist who played without hearing the music and simply watch the movement of the horse.

The video was made for the exhibition Biennale in Monza, to which the artist has been invited to participate. The work, without beginning or end, is an image loop representing children playing at war. Video during exposure is exposed alongside the painting Lego, made in 2008. The artist, with two different means, therefore choose to find the common denominator: the death, watched from the Western world and the third world.

UNTITLED

The serie “Untitled” is composed by four videos, where the artist explores in a more direct and engaging way the man in his most intimate aspects. His work takes up amateur videos online with the attempt to undermine the system of meaning, charging the perception of images and reading their mechanisms. Federica Cogo uses a patient technique of translation of a movie into animation, to a line – but keeping the original sound – giving it a shiny look, seemingly innocent. In this way, it convinces the observer to look carefully at images that would leave people uninterested due to their banality, or on the contrary, would be rejected due to a sense of discomfort or disgust. Its purpose is to reveal the dark side of the animal’s anthropomorphisation: its reification. Asking ourselves about this process means asking ourselves about mankind: about who we are and our image.
